Naa’imur Zakariyah Rahman, aged 20yrs of Ballards Lane, Finchley, North London, has appeared in court charged with planning to bomb Downing Street’s gates before hoping to attack the Prime Minister Theresa May in the confusion using a knife, pepper spray and wearing a suicide vest once inside Number 10.
The charge was ‘Preparing acts of terrorism’ Rahman was remanded in custody during the hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court and will appear at The Old Bailey on 20th December.
Rahman was arrested in raids in London and Birmingham last week and stood in court today beside Mohammed Aqib, aged 21yrs who is accused of trying to join Islamic State as well as preparing acts of terror.
Cabinet Ministers were briefed on Tuesday by MI5 boss, Andrew Parker with details of the alleged assassination plot on the Prime Minister.
This news has come after it was revealed yesterday that nine terrorist attacks had been prevented in the last year.
Security was introduced in the 1970s and further increased in the 1980s with the then increasing threat of the IRA. Downing Street is protected by armed police and is cordoned off by large fortified gates.
